1. Okay IT CAN'T BE JUST ME, but everything space-y in this movie gave me a HUGE Star Wars vibe. All the space stuff in this movie is just so....wondrous. It's big and fascinating and evil exists there too and sometimes it's DEVASTATING and it's everything good I remember from seeing the original Star Wars trilogy for the first time.

And I think that vibe is a big reason why this movie is an instant classic.

2. LOKI IS A FANTASTIC VILLAIN. I am seriously restraining myself from going the Avengers vs. Batman route (because it's unfair to both movies tbh), but let's be honest: Batman has the better villains. Loki was never going to match the level of menace Scarecrow, The Joker or Bane have, because Loki, like Tom Hiddleston said, is a lost child in his very core. There's something about him that is just not psychopathic enough to REALLY scare the living crap out of you when you see him.

But he was a FANTASTIC villain nonetheless because he rode the line between campy and punchable SO WELL. I don't think I've ever seen a comic book villain in a movie that was so comic book-y and still didn't seem ridiculous.

2.5. It could also be that Loki is not as menacing as other villains because Thor obviously still loves him, despite the many many MANY beatings little brother will get.

3. BLACK WIDOW. WAS AWESOME. Even in Iron Man 2, she was a pretty great character, but ScarJo didn't even bother bringing her A game in that movie, so all she did was kick ass and purse her lips at people. BUT IN THIS MOVIE. FUCK YEAH. Lines were said, ass was kicked, WORLD WAS SAVED and A game was definitely, definitely there. She quips and beats heroes with the best of them, and she PWNS Loki in tricksying. FUCK YEAH.

3.5. Also I'm kinda really shipping her with Hawkeye. They're like the Arthur and Eames of this fandom.

4. CLENCH UP, LEGOLAS. Haaaaaaawkeyyyyyyyyyyeeeeeee. All the Haaaaaawkeeeeeyyyyyyyyye. LMAO he needed to have a cerebral recalibration to get out of Loki's spell. YEAH, CEREBRAL RECALIBRATION WITH A BIG METAL PIPE. :D And he shoots stuff behind his head and from the air and he REUSES ARROWS and WHAT YES HE IS TOTALLY LEGOLAS. He is Legolas with BICEPS.

5. IRON MAN, C'MERE. I wanna give you a noogie because I feel like you just mentally graduated from high school and you deserve a medal. Or a shawarma special. Whichever. I loveloveLOVE his scenes with Bruce Banner. They're just these two geeks who love technology and science and they SAVE WORLDS and ugh they're just so adorbs together! FINALLY, SOMEONE WHO SPEAKS ENGLISH. :D :D :D

5.5. Also that scene with the nuclear explosion was AMAZING because half the time, you see him reacting to it and just. YEAH. Welcome to a world in which Tony Stark finally realizes why some things are better not messed with.

6. THE HULK. I LOVE THE HULK. This is a sentence I NEVER thought I'd write. I never bothered with any of his movies, and like everyone else, kinda side-eyed Mark Ruffalo for being cast as the Hulk. BUT HE NAILED IT SO HARD, YOU GUYS. He was endearing and funny and HOLY SHIT DESTRUCTIVE and it was just AWESOME.

6.5. Also the Hulk saving Iron Man. FEELINGS. FEELINGS. MY HEART.

7. THOR. THOR VS HULK. THOR VS IRON MAN. You know what I call it? THORIENTATION WEEK. Orient thyself into the world of THOR and HIS HAMMER. But as usual, Chris Hemsworth is a dude one REALLY shouldn't underestimate, because he makes a not-very-smart Nordic god of thunder who wields a gigantic hammer and whips his hair seem like a rather adorable guy who just wants his brother back. He makes Thor seem as if his heart is bigger than his hammer and that's really the key to him as a character.

7.5. Come of think of it, it's the key for all the characters in this movie. Yes, even Black Widow and Hawkeye.

8. PHIL. D: D: D:

I don't wanna agree with Whedon's idea of his death being the glue to this group because that would mean I would be OKAY WITH HIM DYING and I'm really just NOT. FUCK YOU WHEDON, IT'S LIKE "SERENITY" ALL OVER AGAIN. I'm really not okay with Clark Clegg's role being done in this franchise because he is ADORBS and it's not okay.

9. Nick Fury, for the first time I saw a character, and not Samuel L. Jackson being awesome. You know what I mean? He had another trait except "AWESOME" and that trait was "cunning". Also "strategic". Also also "quite Machiavellian". He didn't stand around, spewing snarky lines. He was quite fabulously steering the Avengers, while at the same time being an audience surrogate. FAB.

10. Oh Captain, my Captain. I think this version of the Captain is far better than the one in his movie. It could be because in this movie, the Captain is obviously the odd one out; in a room full of demigods, monsters and postmodern humans who so vibrantly live in the present, he is the one from the past, constantly readjusting. Chris Evans did a great job playing a sad, 100 year old guy living in a 25 year old super soldier's body. And like I thought, he shines far more when not in the leading spot. He is the moral compass, which he excels in.

11. The effects in this movie were amazing. Not even CGI monsters from outer space could make this movie look like a Bay crap production. All the fights were engaging, superbly executed and sometimes hilarious. Two and a half hours of nonstop fights seemed less than half that time. I think the last time this happened to me in a movie was DH2, but even then, it didn't flow as fast as this. That is some fantastic filmmaking, you guys. Even Nolan could stand a lesson or two.

12. All in all, superb cinematic experience, and also a superb example of how much fun movies can be. WELL DONE. (except for Phil)

Nick Fury is a manipulative bastard and as far as I'm concerned he lied (I meant he lied about the cards). He lied and Phil is actually tucked away somewhere (having been got to by the EMTs just in time) really, really pissed about what Fury did to his trading cards.

And until I see a movie that says different, this is the belief I am sticking to.

Clark Gregg did an interview where he was talking about being in Iron Man 3. Just sayin'. (I totes don't believe he's dead, regardless)

Even if you are right, doesn't that make the whole avenging motive of the Avengers a fake out?

Possibly both. I would not be surprised.
