As you know [livejournal.com profile] deirdre_c is one of my favorite people, internet and otherwise. She normally reserves her considerably awesome vidding gifts for SPN fandom, but she has chosen to make a quick foray into Sherlock fandom.

And this is the amazing result

Check it out! 2 minutes of video that will make your day/week/AWFUL AWFUL SHERLOCK HIATUS

It's still Memorial Day in the US. As a foreigner from a country that also has a memorial day, I find it very peculiar that many Americans take this day to do a BBQ or go shopping, considering how so many many other Americans are having a very solemn day of reminiscing, sometimes for soldiers who died very recently. I guess the culture of hope is stronger than the culture of death here, and that's not a bad thing to have. (the bad thing to have: a culture of ignorance) <3

And now, a miscellaneous post. :)

1. Lady Gaga was interviewed by Stephen Fry for the Financial Times.

The link is for the actual audio files of the interview, which is actually pretty fabulous and interesting. I could be mean and say Stephen Fry brings the intellectual out in the people around him, but that would not be entirely true here. Lady Gaga is a very smart woman. I guess I just forgot about it, lately. That is the mean thing I can say about her.

2. Shakespeare or Batman?

Welcome to the quote quiz THAT WILL DRIVE YOU INSANE. If you're not either a Shakespearean die-hard and/or a huge Batman fan, the quiz will be very very tricky to get completely right. HAVE FUN TRYING THOUGH. It's a fun quiz.

3.An Arthur/Eames fic rec! Early Returns by an anonymous writer (though I have a pretty good guess who it is, considering the amazing, crack-your-ribs-laughing sense of humor they have). Arthur is the assistant editor-in-chief, Eames is the annoying star reporter who keeps hitting on him. It is amazingly engrossing and FUCKING HILARIOUS and I LOVED it. I couldn't stop laughing about this fic for HOURS AND HOURS, it's that amazing.

4. Someone created a beautiful fantasy title sequence for still-in-development "Good Omens" film/tv project. I'm not surprised. People have been waiting for YEARS for "Good Omens" to be developed for the screen.

5. The leaked-on-purpose trailer for David Fincher's adaptation of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", because even though the editing is a bit annoying, it looks AWESOME and the song choice for the trailer is A+

Or something like that.

HEY, I'M NOT DEAD. I have a life and sometimes I don't anything to post about, and so mini-hiatuses are born without me noticing.

NO MORE, HAHA.

Here's a confession: I've been a complete lurker in Inception fandom for the past several months, reading many many MANY Arthur/Eames fics. Because I love Arthur and I love Eames, and I love the idea of them actually taking the pigtail pulling into bed. But not in pigtails, let's not go there (yet).

I want to rec 4 Arthur/Eames fics I've found to be a WONDROUS read, even though I'm the total douchebag kind of lurker who doesn't comment to show love for the writers because I Am Not In Inception Fandom (And No I Don't Want To Write Arthur/Eames Shut Up Shut Up), and therefore, yes, a douchebag.

BUT. FIC RECS:

1. The Case of the Interloper by [livejournal.com profile] imogenedisease (Inception/Sherlock BBC; Arthur/Eames, implied Sherlock/John)

You guys. YOU GUYS. THIS IS EVERYTHING YOU'LL EVER WANT OF AN INCEPTION/SHERLOCK CROSSOVER (well, minus the Sherlock/John sex) FIC. It's 3 fics in this universe about how Eames knows John and how he and Arthur need Sherlock's help and YEGADS IT'S SO PERFECT. What I love the MOST about this fic is the author's take on Eames and Arthur as individuals, and then as a couple. IT'S SO PERFECT. And funny and adorable and just slightly disturbing. LOVE IT.

2. Early And Often by [livejournal.com profile] daisy_chan (Arthur/Eames, RAHM EMANUEL)

This amazing chick somehow managed to shove RAHM FUCKING EMANUEL into Arthur and Eames' world. Rahm Emanuel, my favoritest rage vomiter after Jensen Ackles. RAHM EMANUEL HAS NO LAMP. RAHM EMANUEL NEEDS MO LAMP. Read the fucking thing, it's short and BRILLIANT. (Gratuitous usage of the word "fucking" in this rec was generously supplied by Rahm Fucking Emanuel For Chicago)

3. I bet Nureyev never had to deal with this shit by [livejournal.com profile] cobweb_diamond (Arthur/Eames, established Cobb/Mal)

I have a thing for AUs, okay? I love reading AUs in every single fandom. And somehow, this AU about Cobb being a ballet choreographer who invited Arthur to be a guest dancer with Eames and Mal, really really works for me. I guess that in my mind, they're all small enough to be dancers (certainly JGL is, and also happens to be an acrobat/ninja/something irl), and even Eames works in this scenario. It's really long, but it flows wonderfully and it's so full of UST your ears will steam.

4. Untitled (but I call it 'THE WERE-PINEAPPLE FIC OF AWESOME') by [livejournal.com profile] jibrailis (Arthur/Eames)

THIS FIC. THIS FIC, YOU GUYS. THIS FIC IS ONE OF THE BEST CRACKFICS YOU WILL EVER READ IN YOUR LIFE. It is SO goddamn funny I didn't stop laughing half an hour after finishing it. It's a ridiculous romp about Arthur and witches and Eames somehow in the mix being all sexy IDEK MY BFF WERE-PINEAPPLE. This fic A SUPERB AMALGAMATION OF AWESOMENESS.

Okay, now I have another confession: I finally listened to Florence And The Machine for the first time about a week ago. AND I CAN'T STOP LISTENING TO HER AND THEM EVER SINCE. You know how you discover this awesome artist and their music fits so well in your playlist, it's like you didn't even know it was missing them? That's how I feel about Florence And The Machine.

I'm embedding her video for "Cosmic Love" because goddamn, this is EVERYTHING I've ever wanted of a female singer/songwriter/fabulous diva in a video of avant-garde romanticism. LOVE. HER.

Okay, sure, call me paranoid, but I honestly didn’t know how much I trusted these guys. I mean, yeah, I did end up hitching with Tallahassee after knowing him for a full minute and a half, but for God’s sake, the man had a love affair with Twinkies. These guys looked like looked like they killed zombies as an Olympic sport.

YES. SO MUCH YES. This is the SPN/Zombieland crossover OF MY DREAMS. The voices are FANTASTIC, the verse work is impeccable and by Chuck, I love this Dean. SO MUCH ENJOYMENT.

2. Speaking of enjoyment, this pretty much made my week:

And this is why I changed my LJ summary to "VERILYYYYYYYYY!!!"

The real Jensen Ackles thanks you for your time. :D

1. A while back, one of my bffs in college made me listen to the Polyphony ensemble performing pieces by choral genius Eric Whitacre, who I think is the greatest voice in American choral music nowadays (I would've said worldwide, but I still think he's eclipsed by Arvo Pärt). I feel like this is particularly exemplified by the third piece on the album, Sleep.

Sleep is nothing short of a choral masterpiece, you guys. The climax of it is so divine, I start crying every single time.

So here is a d/l just of it: Sleep

And I highly recommend you buy the rest of the album. It's available both on Amazon and iTunes.

'Sleep', the poem )

2. This is kind of an obvious rec (not that the last one wasn't, if you're into classical music), but I have so much love for Hanz Zimmer's OST for Chris Nolan's 'Inception'. Zimmer is a brilliant composer all on his own, but I find that his style complements the best with Nolan's filmmaking. I really loved what Zimmer did to The Dark Knight. Anyway, "Inception" is such a wonderful movie, and music plays such an important role in it. I thought I'd give you a taste, and the rest you can find for yourself. :)

Anyone who's seen the movie will recognize this (no, it's not the BRRRRM BRRRRRRM): 'Time'

Zimmer is such an orchestrating genius, omg.

3. Okay, so I don't like Kanye West. I don't like his shtick, I don't like his capslock, I don't like his style.

But he sure damn knows some good artists to work with. Example? His latest video, "Power". It's a minute and a half of pure creative genius.

TWO RECS, YOU GUYS. :D I'M SO OVERDUE.

1. The Sky's Gonna Break by [livejournal.com profile] smallnstealthy and [livejournal.com profile] invaderwitch (and insanely gorgeous art by [livejournal.com profile] lightthepsarks)

Dean/Sam (Michael/Lucifer), NC-17, partial AU

Monsters roam the streets like wild dogs, awaiting the call of their master. The Winchesters do what they can to help those struggling to survive, but when something powerful starts screwing with Dean, breaking him down piece by piece, the boys are forced into isolation. While Dean suffers, Sam searches for answers, desperate to keep his brother fighting as Dean has always done for him.

The morning Dean wakes up with a pair of huge, beautiful wings attached to his back, everything changes. With Castiel missing, their only ally is an archangel they can't trust; their only hope is their faith in each other.

It might be just enough to beat the devil.

Honestly?

THINKY MOONAY: Oh, such a beautiful fic. Such a wonderfully realized universe!
CRAZY MOONAY: WING PORN!
TM: Who cares! Look at the spin these two made on season 5! Fantastic!
CM: WING! PORN!
TM: Oh, but Sam! And Dean! And Gabriel! And the Wincest! And it's funny-sad-hot!
CM: Wiiiiiing. Poooooooooorn.
TM: OKAY. YES. AND WING PORN TOO.

So, not my greatest rec in terms of explaining why my gut reactions were like this, but it's a lot because I don't want to spoil you guys. Just click the links and enjoy!

2. 'Be Kind, Unwind' by [livejournal.com profile] nohwrah (and impressive art by [livejournal.com profile] amindaya. The banner art especially is great)

Jared/Jensen, R, AU

jensen ackles is a project manager at ferrisinc, a pr-company, who'll stop at nothing to be the best. as a result, everything he does is calculated and measured, right up to the time it takes for him to have sex with his ex-girlfriend danneel.

in an attempt to make him unwind a little bit, his colleagues convince him to go to a spa and get a few relaxing massages. jensen thinks it's a complete waste of time until he manages to get in with jared padalecki, the most sought-after massage therapist at the spa.

when jensen starts wondering why he responds so well to jared, things get complicated. add to that a womanizing colleague without internal filter and a loudmouth artist with the tackiest designs since the early nineties, and jensen's carefully designed life starts falling apart completely.

Oh god. This one is such a kick. It's a straight-out classic J2 with tons of hilarious banter, amazing UST, HOT HOT HOT non-porn descriptions, and oh, the construction of it all made me sigh happily, ngl. Suffice to say that Jensen is constantly compared to a teapot. I LOVED A LOT. A LOOOOOOT.

Oh my GOD the amount of Big Bangs currently open on my Firefox is overwhelming. VERY MUCH LOOKING FORWARD TO FINISHING THEM ALL, considering I have a week off now. :D

RECS TIME!

1. 'Hail Mary' by [livejournal.com profile] rhythmsextion (and beautiful, beautiful art by [livejournal.com profile] dauntdraws)

Adult, Jared/Jensen, Jensen/OMC
~117,000 words

Three years since becoming the first openly gay coach of a Division I collegiate football team, Jensen Ackles is hired by the Dallas Cowboys as their new quarterbacks coach. Though happy to return to his hometown and eager to return to the NFL, Jensen's new position puts him directly in charge of former teammate, Jared Padalecki, with whom Jensen had a somewhat complicated personal relationship ten years before. Jensen also finds his new position comes with a price when the organization makes it clear they intend to use Jensen's sexual orientation to further their own status. When an old high school friend steps back into Jensen's life, the situation becomes increasingly complicated as Jensen struggles to balance his professional life with his private while attempting to control his reawakening feelings for Padalecki.

(sequel to her last year Big Bang Next Man Up, although there are more fics in this verse too)

You guys. This is a scrumptious read from start to finish. It's just SO SO GOOD. The characterization is perfectly rounded, the pace is fantastic, the football descriptions got even this non-American completely enthralled, the sex is SO HOT and the plot is gripping. It's all around a FANTASTIC FIC and GUH. It's better than any movie out there right now, so save yourself the money and time and GLUE YOURSELF TO YOUR COMPUTER WITH THIS FIC. You will NOT be disappointed. *runs around in circles*

2. 'Rule 26' by [livejournal.com profile] fleshflutter (WIP)

Adult, Jared/Jensen

A mash-up of Star Wars, Flash Gordon and a few other sci-fi stalwarts.
In which there is a galaxy-spanning evil empire, a mission to kidnap a henchman of the aforementioned evil empire, and Jared is a resistance fighter on the aforementioned kidnapping mission.

If you're not reading (and rereading and re-rereading) this fic yet, I don't know what rock you're living under (A ROCK IN SPACE YES I KNOW). It is TEETH-GNASHINGLY GOOD. It's a perfect combination of awesome crack and a total mindfuck, in the best Flesh!horror sense. There aren't a lot of people in this fandom (or any other fandom I've been in tbh) who can write horror as well as [livejournal.com profile] fleshflutter can, and combined with her OH SO FUN tendency to write epic J2 schmoopy angst, I'm just sitting on my damn HANDS waiting for new installments. I mean, it's a crack harlequin J2 IN SPACE. What more do you need?

So, when I went to see Imogen Heap performing earlier this year, I got to see a very special guest performance by an avant-guard cellist by the name of Zoe Keating, who then proceeded to perform an astonishingly beautiful piece called "Optimist".

She is phenomenally talented. I can't stop listening to her new album "Into The Trees", which is the exact same reaction I had when I first discovered her previous album, "One Cello x 16: Natoma". She is a leading voice in cello music, and a leading voice in avant-guard electronica. And she is so so worth listening to. My love for 'Fern' is pretty much endless. It's hauntingly beautiful cello solo with a warm, romantic sound making sweet sweet musical love with minimalistic electronica and I. Am. Smitten. And have been for a while.

So very much recommended, you guys. Her music is available on iTunes, but if you're so inclined, please buy it on Bandcamp, where you have the option to pay more and show real appreciation to an unconventional artist who refuses to submit to labels and corporations, and lives directly off of album sales and downloads.

Her music is available on iTunes, but if you're so inclined, please buy it on Bandcamp, where you have the option to pay more and show real appreciation to an unconventional artist who refuses to submit to labels and corporations, and lives directly off of album sales and downloads.

And today, a Big Bang rec!

'Reanimated' by [livejournal.com profile] tigbit

Pairing: Jensen/Jared (AU)
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: 80,000
Warnings/Spoilers: Everyone’s dead (but fairly alive), references death of two minors, blasphemy, references to extreme child abuse, strong language, sex, and an overabundance of love for food.
Summary: In which Jared manages real estate in Heaven and Jensen works as Hell’s attorney in Death Trials. Extreme ambiguity and a distinct lack of beer push Jared to accept a different kind of job in a hotter, more southern locale. The boys meet. Hi-jinks and grocery-stealing in Hell ensue. Featuring saints on book tours, love on trial, after-life bureaucracy, and sin. Surprisingly not as cracktastic as it sounds.

Fantastic endeavor into the beyond, in a very Good Omens-y kind of way. The angel/demon romance might be a cliché, but man, this is really superbly done. I enjoyed every single aspect about the world building in this fic, as well as the wonderful characterization. It's hilarious, angsty and just downright fun to read. Highly recommended! :D

Dunno about you, but my day wasn't very sparkly. Back ache (AGAIN), very little sleep (AGAIN) and a very low grade on a paper does not make this Moonay a very happy one.

SO.

1. Who's fucking ADORABLE? ANDY GARCIA IS FUCKING ADORABLE.
