All hail Cillian Murphy and his freakishly beautiful face!

All in all, a very decent Sci-Fi movie, done in a very old-fashioned way which nevertheless is effective. I've seen loads of reviews comparing it to "Solaris", and while I've never seen that movie, I've heard enough about it to know that "Sunshine" is dealing with more or less the same themes; the survival of mankind, the fate of mankind in this solar system, what mankind is capable of and what are the limits.
I have to say that for Danny Boyle the violence is pretty tame. Certainly nothing compared to the first 15 minutes of "28 Days Later".
The visuals are, as expected, nothing short of stunning, and the fact that a massive amount of the crew is made of inordinately beautiful people helps it. Because the starship crew is basically made of:
Captain Asian Alpha Male
Neurotic Second In Command
The Most Rugged And Manly Computer Nerd You've Ever Seen (Chris Evans, who would probably make a better Indiana Jones than a Bill Gates but whatever)
Gardener Pretty (Michelle Yeoh who really wasn't onscreen enough)
Uber Cool Psychologist Who Likes His Ray Bans A Bit Too Much
Obssessive (And Consequently Suicidal) Mathematician
The Stereotypical Girl With A Heart
Extremely Pretty Boy Physicist Who In The End Matters The Most (Cillian)

Surprisingly enough, the movie was funny a lot of the time. You know, when it wasn't scary as fuck with Freddie Kruger paying a visit to outer space. Oh yeah, the villain. He sucked. A Leading scientist-turned Jesus freak who wants to stop man's progress and future. So blah. It was a very superficial, offhanded way of dealing with the Science Vs. God issue that so many Sci-Fi movies feature. Really, think "Matrix" sans the supercool martial arts and replace black leather with gold disco-ball-shiny space suits and you'll get "Sunshine". The only two saving points of the movie were that the rest of the cast was excellent (and beautiful) and the special effects and design were so well-thought and well-executed.

My favourite moment?

RUGGED AND MANLY COMPUTER NERD: I came to apologize!!!!!
PRETTY BOY PHYSICIST: I want to----wait, what?
RUGGED AND MANLY COMPUTER NERD: I want to apologize!!!!!
PRETTY BOY PHYSICIST: ........
RUGGED AND MANLY COMPUTER NERD: ........
PRETTY BOY PHYSICIST: You're aplogizing right now aren't you?
RUGGED AND MANLY COMPUTER NERD: Yeah.
PRETTY BOY PHYSICIST: Yeah, whatever. Accepted.
GIRL WITH A HEART: Men.

*ships Capa/Maze SO BADLY* They need to have pretty men outer space sex. >:D

Oh, Cillian, You're so beautiful and underestimated and you were so the heart of the movie without being all "I'm the leading man! Hear me ROAR!". Plus you wore tank tops. And you're freckled, which is ten kinds of cute. I want to have sex with your face.

BAHAHAHAH.

So yeah, if you want some decent sci-fi, go and see "Sunshine"

2 Funny Things occured to me in the cinema:

1. The statistics of the audience for "Sushine" is pretty much 90% male geeks and 10% females who came to drool on the pretty (yours truly included).

2. There was a trailer for a movie about the Russian mafia with Viggo Mortensen speaking in a very fake Russian accent and it was the FUNNIEST THING EVER. :D

Love!
