Conversation with my protege this week on the way to 'Brother Bear':

Protege: Did you see this week's "(talk show name)"?
Me: No...what did you see?
Protege: There was a woman there who tried to build a flag out of candles.
Me: I'm pretty sure you meant light-bulbs, not candles dear.
Protege: I think it was candles. She wanted the flag to stand too, and I thought it was really unsafe.
Me: She wanted the flag to stand? With the candles?
Protege: Yes! And I really wondered how she planned to do that. Maybe she should ask Harry Potter to come over and do a spell.
Me: *tries to hold giggle* Harry Potter?
Protege: Yeah! Oh wait, magic is illegal in this country, isn't it.

At that point I tried explaining to my 11 year old protege that a)Harry Potter is a literary creation, and not, in fact, a real boy, and b) That even if Harry Potter did exist, he lives in England, not here (Protege: Really?!)

She kills me sometimes, I swear. xD
