So, having finally seen "500 Days of Summer", I'm going to say the following things:
1. When Joseph Gordon-Levitt hits the A-List (he's not very far at the moment), it's going to be well-deserved. Jeez, can that guy act.
2. Even though I found Zooey Deschanel's acting a bit wooden at times, she is still leagues better than Minka Kelly, and I suspect she'll always be.
3. It was really obvious who was the movie star, who was the indie star and who was the tv star in this movie. I never thought I'd see the differences quite so clearly. File that for future references.
4. The movie was at times really great, really overly sugary and really students project. Half-baked mostly, but
5. people really really need to lay off in indie film:
a) Faux-drawn credits/trasitions
b) Cutesy soundtracks (is it all by She And Him?)
c) Yellow-red-green saturation a-la "Amélie". I get that it was the most influencial indie film of the last couple of decades, but now the style is overdone.
d) All of the above. Really, we've had one "Juno" already. You're not going to get that much recognition without the stellar cast and Diablo Cody's debut.
6. Still, JGL makes it worth the watch. Dude is limber!
Which is to say,
