So.
Kanye West's SNL performances.
Lets talk, because I'm very conflicted. On one hand, I'm so completely impressed by the concept. On the other hand, was it really necessary for several ballerinas to be standing at Extension for so long? It was a really bad visual. There's also the deal with the simulated lesbian sex/powerplay, but then you have that awesome moment in Runaway with Kanye rapping to a single ballerina doing a solo. I'm not even putting my aversion to everything Kanye West into this equation. I'm actually really torn about whether I liked it or not, and the deal is, I really really REALLY wanna like it, because goddamn, we really did just see ballerinas doing a mix of barre and contemporary to live rapping.
Eh.

To everyone who's been discussing the opening of LJ's fandom culture to FB and Twitter via the link options, I would like you to read what
pir8fancier is saying in this post, and think about it carefully.
I'm not against fandom co-existing in other blogspheres, and I certainly don't think LJ is the main creative center of fandom.
I do, however, think LJ is one of the main cores of fandom, and it's that for a reason. It's the same reason why people have fought against TOS changes, and why other cores have the same spirit as LJ's fandom does: It's a loose environment. Yes, we have to warn for explicit content, and yes, we have to make sure LJ is (and by extent, we are) exempt of legal repercussions if underage people get access to this kind of content. And yes, we are oftentimes exposed to some very nasty actions caused by fellow fandomers.
But Facebook especially is not a place where a fandom can truly exist. Twitter is a gray zone of blogging, but FB is not. It has a TOS that aggressively attacks its users' privacy, no matter how many times the media and users retaliate. It's an incredibly overexposed environment, even if one locks their own information. I'm not saying this is not a similar case on LJ, but I am saying that LJ is a fandom blogsphere, and FB is emphatically NOT.
And this is why interconnecting the two should not happen, in my opinion.
Now, if you want to connect LJ and, say, TwoP, we can discuss that heartily.

It's an "ohmyGOD" kind of day
Nov. 6th, 2009 03:47 pmI'm yet to post my SPN episode reaction, mainly because it's HUGE and I'm still writing it. Re-watching "Changing Channels" doesn't help with my concentration either. :D
BUT! Two things unrelated to SPN!
1. From ONTD: 'Our favorite FML Ambassador is an avid pillow humper'
Chosen quotes include: motel guests have been complaining about the loud sobbing that comes from Pattinson’s room at all hours of the night. The only time the crying seems to stop is during one of Pattinson’s vigorous pillow-humping sessions, which happen three-to-four times a day, and last for about five-to-seven minutes each.
During the hump sessions, guests and staff members can clearly hear Pattinson’s bed creaking violently while the star yells out at the top of his lungs, “I am humping a pillow."
OH, RPATTZ. WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN? I've missed your epic crazy. Or rather, the epic crazy invented about your life.
2. If you haven't seen "The Daily Show" last night, Jon Stewart ripped super-crazy-annoying Glenn Beck a new one, which is funny, since Beck had a botched hemorrhoids surgery a while back.
OH, JON STEWART. HOW SO EPICALLY AWESOME? I smell another Emmy!

That's fandom for you
Oct. 3rd, 2009 10:25 pm1. Gacked from
missyjack, AfterElton reviews 'The End', Facebook style, and it's hilarious. I do very much prefer After Elton's attitude towards the slashers among us to Kripke's awkward laughing-at-us-or-with-us fumbling.
2.
keepaofthecheez found original gay erotica that's an actual J2 fic made into original fiction rather than getting submitted to this year's Big Bang. I dunno about you, but I'm all O_O about RPS getting renamed and published.
In other news, Kitty seems to have morphed into a DeanCat, judging by the way she completely hogged my keyboard as I was re-watching "The End" today on my laptop. Okay, it might've been for the warmth, but she had no qualms about staring at the multiple Dean Winchesters on my screen. Girl's got good taste, what can I say. :D

Oh look! I've been surfing ONTD too much tonight!
Two awful, one awesome:
1. Douchy writer from The Village Voice post-mortem-attacks Michael Jackson in a tl;dr rant
I swear, it's like a teenaged girl is screaming in my ear. Hate MJ or not, that's just plain douchy.
2. See the trainwreck in action: Worst Twilight tattoos
I have no words. They're bad tattoos from bad material, they're badly done tattoos and they're so fucking conspicuous. Some time in the future, the laser removal industry is gonna get a lot richer. (my favourite snarky comment) (ETA: Second snarky win!)
3. So apparently Dave Grohl, John Paul Jones and Josh Homme have been doing studio sessions together, recording new material
As in, Dave Grohl on drums (like in Nirvana and the beginning of Foo Fighters), John Paul Jones on bass (Led Zeppelin ring any bells?) and Josh Homme on guitar (aka crazy desert motherfucker from Queens Of The Stone Age). YEAH. And reports say it's AMAZING. I WANT I WANT I FUCKING WANT.
Ahem. :D

My thoughts about today
May. 31st, 2009 12:56 am1. #asylm: I tweeted this earlier, when the squick factor from the panels was high, and I think the truthiness is sound:
Supernatural fandom; where it's never boring, but it's always embarrassing.
2. #asylm:
memphis86 and
regala_electra came up with this hilarious macro to Jared and Jensen's epic cases of bitchface today. Also, I can't sit next to them in public, like, ever.
3. #asylm: IDK, you guys. IDK. It didn't sound particularly like lots of fun for the goers. It sounded more like it was seriously disorganized and people suffered because of it (among them probably Jared, Jensen and Misha). I'm waiting to hear from actual Con reports to prove me wrong, but the twitter has spoken.
3.5. #asylm: Sort through your feelings, people. I know this is kind of a lot to take in, but do not despair (if that's how you indeed feel)! However we end up feeling about this Con, there's a lot of fic and schmoop coming this summer to comfort.
(3.75. #asylm: I still think Jensen's hair is fugly. Sorry!)
4. Unrelated note: "Up" is AMAZING. Go and see it. :D

Introduce a little anarchy
Sep. 14th, 2008 08:18 pmWow, could NYC be hotter and muggier today? I think not. I feel like Moist's long lost sister.
( Also, I went to see Burn After Reading )
And by the way, The Dark Knight is still mindblowing on Imax, and JDM is still utterly fuckable in the Watchmen trailer. Just thought I'd let you know. :D
<33
PS - WHY IS SPN NOT BACK YET.
( Also, I went to see Burn After Reading )
